Community Open Day!

22 Nov

This friday, TRC hosted their Community Open Day with the theme ” Together for Sustainability”. It was a colourful ceremony graced by the presence of the LCV chairman of Masaka District, the Catholic priest, the Parents and Teacher Association (PTA) members,Knowledge for Children staff,   pupils and entire TRC community. The day started with a mass held by the catholic priest to celebrate some of our pupils finishing the foundation classes, then an exhibition by Tekera Vocational School  and lastly an auction to sell off our produce, and  other goodies that the community had brought.

At the beginning of this year, TRC set out sustainability as one of its major goals and all activities for this program year have been geared towards achieving that goal. The Open Day was aimed at engaging the TRC community in our goals, and so all community members were asked to voluntarily contribute an item to be sold off in the auction. I must say , the community surpassed all our expectations when they contributed 25 chickens, 4 goats,Fresh produce like bunches of bananas, beans, papaya, avocado, sugarcane , eggplants, mangoes, tomatoes, onions, pineapples, and cassava.

As earlier mentioned, Tekera Vocational School also held an exhibition to show the community what the students were being taught so as to attract more students to join the school. Both the primary school pupils  and TVS students showed off their skills they had acquired in the tailoring, construction and carpentry classes. Parents proudly bought the products that the children had made.

All in all, the day was a fun-packed day for everyone and by the end of the day , we had raised  264CDN. All proceeds will go towards TRC projects.
