Adult Education

Adult Education

As English is the official language in Uganda , our children are taught in English through both primary and secondary schools. English is often viewed as the language of business and education within the country.  Many adults whose education was cut short are eager to build on their basic knowledge. Some adults, especially women, never had the opportunity to attend school and hence their knowledge of English is very poor.

TRC’s Adult English Program began in 2006 by two volunteers (Manon and Sanne) from Holland. Since then, the class has changed hands a number of times.  Though it has become somehow intermittent, most recently in 2010 Jess (one of the Directors) initiated the class again.  The focus is educating our on-site staff in basic English to communicate better with our volunteers.
