ECONOMY
ECONOMY BUILDING AND THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
SDG #1 NO POVERTY
Tekera community savings groups and microfinance loans programs give people the opportunity to participate in economic opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to
SDG #2 ZERO HUNGER
Through building the economy in the agriculture and business sectors - Tekera is trying to help families put nutritious food on their tables for the wellbeing of their families
SDG # 3 GOOD HEALTH AND WELLBEING
A healthy community thrives economically – allowing people to have the opportunity to make choices for their future based on their own subjective values and needs
SDG #4 QUALITY EDUCATION
Building up the economy in the village allows people to afford fees for education and school – thus in turn increasing the education and literacy levels of the community in addition to helping increase the self – sufficiency and quality of the school
SDG #5 GENDER EQUALITY
We offer loans to all community members regardless of gender orientation – we also try to look at barriers to access based on gender, in addition to acknowledging the traditional gender discrimination inherent in financial exclusion.
SDG # 8 DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
This is at the heart of this program. We believe that every individual has the right to a livable wage, a safe work environment, and the opportunity to choose meaningful and productive work. Also, access to economic financial assets allows for increased economic innovation, growth and infrastructure
SDG #9 INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
-
Offering microfinance loans and community savings investment allows for increased participation in industry building, innovation and infrastructure growth
-
Our productive technology center offers skills to allow community members to participate in a leading-edge industry. We offer training in computer technology, bridging the rural-urban technology skills gap. We also offer this program to our Primary school students.
SDG # 10 REDUCED INEQUALITIES
This program helps bridge the economic gap between rural – urban incomes disparity while also raising community members out of poverty conditions
SDG # 11 SAFE, SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES
With the goal of economic self-sufficiency, this program increases resiliency and self-stainability – decreasing dependence on foreign funding and putting choice back into the hands of our community
SDG #12 RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Very little gets wasted through our economic initiatives and as a by-product of business Uganda, very little natural resources get wasted in the economic process. All business initiatives have very little material footprint.
SDG #13 CLIMATE ACTION
Tekera has invested in re-forestation initiatives as a self-sustainability program. Good for economic growth of the center, the climate, and Uganda’s global UNIPCC intended nationally determined climate change contributions!
SDG #15 LIFE ON LAND
Through our reforestation investments we are promoting sustainable use of ecosystems, participating in sustainable forest management, and aiming to reverse land degradation
