SUSTAINABILITY

The United Nations Global Sustainable Development Goals are about sustainability, but sustainability is a word that is often over used and under defined.

To us, sustainability means:

  1. Financial sustainability: being able to run things without foreign money

  2. Institutional sustainability: everyone is trained in what sustainability is for us, and has the skills to achieve it

  3. Programmatic sustainability: all the programs are run so that they are long term

  4. Community sustainability: getting out of the mindset that things are free and having the community be onboard with the vision of Tekera

Under this SDG we also:

11.1 Provide access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services to Tekera

11.3 Enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management

11.B Substantially increase the number of cities and human settlements adopting and implementing integrated policies and plans towards inclusion, resource efficiency, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, resilience to disasters

11.C Support least developed countries, including through financial and technical assistance, in building sustainable and resilient buildings utilizing local materials.
